I created this space to spark a conversation, to challenge the old mindset that getting married, having children, and growing old means you're "settling down." There isn't one path to becoming a woman, wife, or mother. We can pursue and create the life we truly desire in our way and on our own time table.
We can choose to settle up.
We were celebrating my husband's birthday at Keen's Steakhouse in NYC, newly married, having just moved across the country a few months earlier. We were discussing our goals for the next few years when I asked my husband "Why does our society conform to the idea that getting married and having kids means we're "settling down?" He agreed and we spent the next hour talking about this idea. Having recently left my job on the West Coast for our big city move, I proposed I should start a blog or website to have this very conversation with others. I wrote the business idea on a notepad from the restaurant.
Back then, I wasn't brave enough to bring the idea to life. Instead I found a job I really loved but the vision of the website always remained in the back of my mind.
Another cross-country move back to the West Coast, one birth of a baby boy, and a global pandemic later I was suddenly met with an abundance of time I didn't have before. This invaluable currency of time created the space I needed to finally see this idea through.
So here it is, my second baby. A space for conversation, resources, and support to empower women to choose for themselves and pursue what they desire most. I am not an expert on anything but you can consider me a resource and friend to share what I've learned, what I know, and create community where we can learn from each other.
Now that you've found this space, you will discover resources to support you in self care, movement, pregnancy and postpartum, and motherhood.
You can explore on-demand yoga, education on clean personal care products, and a blog to create deeper conversation about pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, self care, and career.
Welcome to the Settle Up community. I'm so glad you're here!
